In this exercise, you will use Canvas to create a visual overview of your recipes.
Your Canvas does not need to look pretty, just experiment with the features.

Step 1: Create a Canvas

Create a new Canvas either by:

  • Clicking Create new canvas in the left ribbon (Canvas icon), or
  • Right-clicking in the File explorer and selecting New canvas

Name it Cookbook Overview (or something similar).

Step 2: Add your recipes as cards

Add all recipe notes you created in Exercise 2 to the Canvas:

  • Drag and drop notes from the File explorer into the Canvas, or
  • In the Canvas toolbar (bottom center), click Add note (middle button) and select your recipe notes

Arrange the cards so they don’t overlap.

Step 3: Add placeholder recipe cards (text cards)

Add 3–4 cards that are not notes:

  • Create a new card:
    • Double-click anywhere inside the Canvas, or
    • Click Add card in the Canvas toolbar (bottom center, left button)
  • Add the name of a recipe to each card (these can be recipes you want to try later)
    • Optional: use basic Markdown (headings, bold, lists) inside the card

Step 4: Group your cards

  • Create 2–3 groups (for example: Main dishes, Dessert, Ideas / To try)
  • Name each group
  • Change the color of each group

Step 5: Add connections

Draw at least one connection between two recipe cards (for example: similar ingredients or same course).

Optional tasks (if you finish early)

You can do these in any order or skip them and take a break.

  • Add a food-related image anywhere on the Canvas
  • Change the color of some recipe cards
  • Expand one of the text cards using more advanced Markdown syntax (see Markdown cheatsheet)
  • Zoom far out in your Canvas and move your notes far away from each other (to get a feel for the “endlessness” of Canvas and how you can move around)
